On our path to healing, inspiration and empowerment, we can find much support in nature and from animals – both in physical reality and in sacred spirit journeys. Today I will share an excerpt from a sacred spirit journey where Horse shares a powerful message that you can use as an inspiration to create harmony in your own life.
As I begin the spirit journey, I find myself in a nature landscape with trees around me. I focus on my feet, letting them connect with the earth. Although in physical reality, I have shoes on, and I am sitting indoors, it feels like the energy from my feet seek down in the ground – penetrating the layers of shoe, floor, concrete etc., seeking and finding its way down into the rich earth. It’s an inner strength, an inner connection which can easily get lost as we live in cities. Connecting with nature is an important part of our well-being, of our feeling whole.
I feel someone breathing on my left cheek. It’s Horse that has arrived. Horse says:
“That’s why I’m here. I am your guide, not just to nature but to yourself. I help you get in touch with yourself and guide you to walking the Earth with confidence, direction and passion.
Always be true to who you are and remember your connection with all beings. It is that remembering which will help you walk in harmony and create harmony.
In dealing with Horse, your state is easily revealed – mirrored in me – as a way of guiding you to increased awareness. On your path through healing, inspiration and empowerment watch how I am part of your journey.”
Marianne: “Thanks. Have you got a specific step people can take now?”
Horse says:
“In your relationships be genuine, intuitive, and show empathy, but stay true to your true self. It also involves learning when to say yes and no, of taking a stand. It’s called walking in power. Just watch a horse and you’ll see how to walk in power and grace.”

I have always loved horses and had an awesome experience a few years ago with a friend who trains CEO’s and executives in leadership skills by getting in the sand box with her horses. Initially I felt intimidated as I had no idea what to do and her horse completely ignored me. She had instructed me to stand in the centre and to connect with him and see if he would walk, trot, gallop and stop by me giving the slightest signals.
When I got out of my head and stopped worrying what he might think ( oh my, right?!) and dropped into my heart, he looked at me and from that moment he responded, as if by magic 🙂
The most magical moment was when I turned around and he started following me, breathing in my neck. When I walked, he walked. When I stopped, he stopped. We’d bonded and the gift I received from him was to simply be myself. Such grace and beauty.

Interesting timing ~ I just finished writing about an incorrigible Shetland pony I knew early in life. (He was a lot like Peggy’s “what rules?” buddy.) I’m never quite sure what I learned from him… maybe something about my own drummer.

I grew up with horses – and they taught me quite a bit when I was young. My biggest lesson from nearly every horse I rode, brushed, fed, cleaned, or mucked out her stall, was TRUST. And of course, certain horses had specific lessons – one of which was “rules? what rules?” – HA! She was the horse that would escape any fence just to be on the other side 😉
