For many of us, the concept of ‘self-love’ can be hard to relate to and embrace. We were raised by people who couldn’t embrace self-love either, for they were not taught to love themselves, be themselves or to shine. Many were taught to be quiet, to fit in, and perhaps even physically and/or emotionally punished. Very few of us can look to our immediate family or surroundings for permission to truly love ourselves. We need to get to the point where we’re able to give ourselves permission to love ourselves. To know deep in our heart that it’s enough and okay to be who we are; that it’s okay to shine. What comes up for you when you think of ‘self-love’? Can you allow yourself to be okay just the way you are? Are you still trying to hide, or can you allow yourself to shine?
