I find it helpful to explore different approaches to dealing with the challenges that sometimes arise in our lives. For this article I used Alana Fairchild’s oracle cards with messages from Kuan Yin, Goddess of Compassion.
As I connected with the cards while holding the intention of receiving insights on dealing with challenges, I shuffled the cards and drew the following card:
Empress of the Pearl
The accompanying text from the book by Alana Fairchild says:
“You have an inner gift of great value, born of struggle, adversity and challenge. In wisdom you know that suffering can lead to growth provided we are willing to search for a way to heal through it. Seeing challenges as ways to expand your spiritual light empowers you to focus on your growing light, rather than getting caught up in suffering.”
Prayer:
“With beloved Kuan Yin, Empress of the Pearl, as my witness, I transform negativity into light through compassion. Anything that causes me discomfort I use to grow my light, so it becomes bigger than the discomfort, and I now choose to experience the light of my being and its spiritual growth as more powerful than any irritation or suffering which serves that growth. Om Mani Padme Hum.”

After drawing the card Empress of the Pearl, I ask Kuan Yin to elaborate on the message.
The first thing that happens is that I see my spirit guide come out from my heart center holding a pink rose which he offers to Kuan Yin who has approached us.
Kuan Yin accepts the gift and says:
“The gift I mentioned is the gift you find when you enter your heart. When you dare open your heart, live from the heart, and walk the path of the heart.
Pain, challenges, suffering are all temporary. As they come by, watch them with compassion but know that they are not who you are. They are fleeting, temporary – like waves on the ocean. You are the ocean, not the waves. And yet, all is one. Let it all be there and don’t hang on to anything, and you’ll see that what you’re left with is the peace of your soul – the infinity and compassion of the One – of Spirit.
If you resist, you will feel as if you’re hitting your head against a wall, but if you surrender and watch with compassion, everything flows by, leaving you at peace.
It’s about consciously choosing where you put your focus. You can focus on the pain and discomfort of the challenge, or you can see the lesson that is buried in that challenge; the opportunity for growth you’ll always find in any challenge.
Use challenges as reminders and tools to raise your awareness, to keep returning to the present moment, to live and express compassion and unconditional love – to BE love – the state where you let go and don’t hang on to anything – the state where you realize that you can never really be separated from anything for you are everything, and everything is you – just like the past and the future are contained in the present moment. The Now is all there is.
By realizing the light which is inside you – and which you’ll find by entering into and through your heart – you’ll see the light in others.
Today, become aware and present with what is and what arises – let it be and let it go.”

The cards have beautiful images and they are accompanied by extensive and very useful and inspiring text that is often spot on the intention set for the reading. You can find the Kuan Yin Oracle Cards by Alana Fairchild on Amazon.

Really beautiful, thank you so very much!
A beautiful message Marianne. Thank you for sharing.

I love the line about realizing the light in your heart and you’ll see the light in others. It really starts with ourselves, doesn’t it? Wonderful reading that spoke to me. Thank you.
This is just the message I needed to read this morning Marianne. It’s a powerful affirmation of our light not our darkness and our transformation not our suffering. When we focus our thoughts, energies and choices on the light, our shadows will dissolve and guide us in our spiritual growth. Beautiful!
I feel like this message is for me as well. Thank you, Marianne.
